Differential Dynamics of CALR Mutant Allele Burden in Myeloproliferative Neoplasms during Interferon Alfa Treatment

Researchers from a recent study expanded previous findings of interferon-α efficacy in patients with essential thrombocythemia by showing molecular response in pre-primary myelofibrosis and primary myelofibrosis patients as well. Importantly, they demonstrated that variation in the dynamics of mutant calreticulin gene (CALR) allele burden during and after treatment is closely associated with hematological parameters and, thus, likely reflects the disease burden.
